Today I would like to share some information about the main components of a microwave. Microwave components are assembled for the purpose of linking sites to each other through radio waves.
THE MAIN COMPONENTS OF A MICROWAVE
Dish antenna;
Coaxial cable;
ODU (RAU);
IDU (Magazine).
DISH ANTENNA
An antenna designed to radiate and receive microwave frequencies is called a microwave antenna. It has different sizes: 30, 60, 90, 120, 240, 370cm.
There are two ways to install microwave:
Integrated mount;
Separate mount.
Integrated Mount
In this method, the ODU is installed on the dish antenna directly. This happens more with short haul, as we use dish antennas that have a small sizes.
Separate mount
In this way, the dish antenna is installed separately and ODU is installed far from the dish antenna and between them and the waveguide. We use in this case large dish antennas - this method is called long haul.
Comparison between long haul and short haul
Long haul
High diameter, where large size dish antenna is used;
In long haul we use low frequency;
High wavelength;
High coverage area.
Short haul
Low diameter, where small size dish antenna is used;
In short haul we use high frequency;
Low wavelength;
Low coverage area.
COAXIAL CABLE (IF CABLE)
IF intermediate frequency
It carries a low frequency in the range of 140 MHz for transmitting and 350MHz for receiving. The impedance of the cable is not more than 50 ohms and the highest frequency that the coaxial cable can withstand is 4 GHz. The cable is connected to the cabin and the antenna via a connector.
ODU (RAU)
Radio Access Unit
It is a device responsible for amplifying the signal during the transmission and reception and the raising and lowering of the signal frequency (raising the frequency during transmission from 140M to 38G for example and sending it in the air to the opposite site and then ODU lowering it from 38G to 350M so that the cable can withstand and then go down to IDU ( Magazine).
Recently, a type called Eband ODU was released. That does it all, so IDU has been dispensed.
