You can run the display port infor command to query the shortest distance (minimum distance) and longest distance (maximum distance) for ranging compensation of a PON port. The actual distance of the ONU or OLT is beyond this range.

You use the port range command to adjust the nearest and longest distances so that the actual distance is within the range compensation range.

By default, the ranging compensation of a GPON port is 0 km to 20 km.

According to the protocol, the maximum distance compensation distance of a GPON port cannot exceed 60 km, and the difference between the maximum distance and the nearest distance cannot exceed 20 km.

For example, the actual fiber length of the ONU or OLT is about 25 km, and the ranging compensation distance is 0 km or 20 km.

If the ONT cannot be automatically discovered, you can manually register the ONT to make it go online. If the fault persists, the ONT may fail to go online or go offline suddenly due to the distance. To ensure network security, you are advised to check and rectify the fault.

The maximum logical distance between the ONT and the OLT depends on the board capability.
Generally, the maximum logical distance of a GPON board ranges from 0 to 60Km and that of an XG-PON board ranges from 0 to 100Km.

You can run the port range(gpon) command to set the maximum and minimum logical distances of a GPON port.

Note that running this command interrupts all services carried by the ONT and the ONT goes online after re-authentication.

The maximum logical distance supported by the GPON board is 60 km.

If you need the ONT to work at 40 km. 

You can run this command to change the maximum distance to more than 40 km. However, the maximum distance minus the minimum distance must be less than or equal to 40 km. (Depending on the type of the optical module)
