Hi, I want to know the major difference b/w ELINE and ELAN service, if both support point to multipoint topology then why EPLAN is used. State your answer please.

Dear friend!

Ethernet line (E-Line)

A type of Ethernet service that is based on a point-to-point EVC (Ethernet virtual connection).

Ethernet local area network (E-LAN)

A type of Ethernet service that is based on a multipoint-to-multipoint EVC (Ethernet virtual connection).

Therefore, their network topology is completely different. The first one is point-to-point, and the second one is the multipoint-to-multipoint. In an E-Line service, the two sites exclusively occupy bandwidth resources. In the case of E-LAN services, the related stations share the bandwidth service, thus improving the utilization of communication resources.

In addition, E-LAN and EPLAN are different.

EPLAN: A type of Ethernet service provided by SDH, PDH, ATM, or MPLS server layer networks. This service is carried over dedicated bandwidth between multipoint-to-multipoint connections

Hi user hope below lcan help u:

E-Line is a point to point service.

E-LAN is a multi-point to multi-point service.

E-LAN forwards packets according to the MAC address. It has one MAC address forwarding table.

E-LAN may happen to broadcast the storm if a loop is made.

E-line is easier to maintain than the e-LAN service.

Hi dear!

E-LAN Services

As shown in the networking topology, the E-LAN services are multipoint-to-multipoint services. The equipment realizes the multipoint-to-multipoint transmission of Ethernet services through the E-LAN.

According to the service transmission mode on the network side, the E-LAN services can be classified into the following types:

E-LAN services carried by ports

E-LAN services carried by PWs

E-LAN services carried by QinQ links

E-LAN Services Carried by Ports

Figure 1 shows the networking diagram of the E-LAN services carried by ports.

Three user-side networks, namely, CE1, CE2, and CE3 access the operator network through the FE ports. CE1, CE2, and CE3 have their own VLAN tags and must be able to visit each other. You can configure the E-LAN services to realize the communication between different user-side networks.

You need to configure the services to be carried by ports on the network side to realize the transmission of the Ethernet services from the user side. In the uplink direction of the user side on each NE node, complex traffic classification can be performed for data packets and different QoS policies can be used according to the traffic types.

E-LAN Services Carried by PWs

Figure 2 shows the networking diagram of the E-LAN services carried by PWs.

Three network-side networks, namely, CE1, CE2, and CE3 access the operator network through the FE ports. CE1, CE2, and CE3 have their own VLAN tags and must be able to visit each other. You can configure the E-LAN services to realize the communication between different users.

On the network side, the accessed user services are carried by PWs after PW encapsulation, and then are transmitted through the tunnel. In this manner, the transmission of Ethernet services is realized. In the uplink direction of the user side on each NE node, complex traffic classification can be performed for data packets and different QoS policies can be used according to the traffic types.

E-LAN Services Carried by QinQ Links

Figure 3 shows the networking diagram of the E-LAN services carried by QinQ links.

Three network-side networks, namely, CE1, CE2, and CE3 access the supplier network through the FE ports. CE1, CE2, and CE3 have their own VLAN tags and must be able to visit each other. You can configure the E-LAN services to realize the communication between different user-side networks.

On the network side, the Ethernet services are transmitted over QinQ links. When the services are carried by QinQ links, the packets that carry C-VLAN tags from the user-side network are added with the S-VLAN header of the transport network. That is, the packets from the user-side network traverse the transport network, carrying two layers of tags. In the uplink direction of the user side on each NE node, complex traffic classification can be performed for data packets and different QoS policies can be used according to the traffic types.
