Hello fellow Engineers!

Our customer has acquired a new controller board, but it is a different hardware version.

Active Controller Board: MPLA

Standby Controller Board: MPLB

  Command:
          display board 0
  -------------------------------------------------------------------------
  SlotID  BoardName  Status          SubType0 SubType1    Online/Offline
  -------------------------------------------------------------------------
  0
  1
  2       H902GPUF   Normal
  3       H902GPSF   Normal
  4       H902GPSF   Normal
  5       H902GPSF   Normal
  6
  7
  8       H903MPLA   Active_normal
  9       H903MPLA   Standby_failed                       Online
  10
  11
  12
  13
  14
  15
  16
  17
  18      H902PILA   Normal
  19      H902PILA   Normal
  -------------------------------------------------------------------------

The board is identified as online but its state is failed. Data sync state is also failed.

I found in HedEx documentation that diffenret hardware versions may lead to this issue:

The customer wants to switch to the newer MPLB board, but in this way we are not able to sync data between boards.

How can we migrate from the MPLA to the MPLB with minimal service interruption?

Hi, friend!

According to the information provided by you, it is confirmed that the two boards do not support intermixing.

Thanks!

According to the data synchronization states, active/standby switchover can be either normal switchover or forced switchover.

Normal Switchover
This is carried out in the case of sufficient data synchronization.

Normal switchover does not cause the board link to be broken and the board to be reset, thus ensuring the continuity of the ongoing service.

Forced Switchover
This non-standard operation is carried out in the case of insufficient data synchronization when the control board is abnormal. The following data might be synchronized insufficiently:

Configuration data

In this case, the MA5600/MA5603 does not support the command for the forced switchover. Other forced switching approaches, such as manually resetting the active control board or removing the active control board, lead to loss of basic data. Therefore, it is not recommended to perform the forced switchover.

Basic running data

In this case, the MA5600/MA5603 does not support the command for this forced switchover. Other forced switching approaches neither reset the MA5600/MA5603 nor affect the database, but they might lead to the service board being reset and the service being interrupted.

Dynamic service data

In this case, the MA5600/MA5603 supports the command for the forced switchover. The switchover does not affect the original services, alarms, logs and connections.

Hello Friend,

If I'm not mistaken, different controller card models cannot be used together.

Yes! I discovered the same, they can not be used together. I would like to know a way to migrate from one controller board to the new one. If that can be done in some automatic and simple way.

Without interruption of service I believe isn't possible, because the boards don't synchronize the data automatically. What can be done is to backup the OLT, switchover the boards and apply the configuration on the new board.
