Loss of the Data About an Inter-Subrack Wavelength Protection Group Results from

Symptom

In a certain network consisting of the OptiX BWS 1600G, an inter-subrack wavelength protection group is configured between the #1 NE and the #2 NE. When a user queries the #2 NE for the inter-subrack wavelength protection group data but the NMS displays that the data is empty. Then the user queries the #1 NE for the data but the NMS displays an error message indicating that the protection group is incomplete.

Cause analysis

The possible causes of the preceding problem are as follows:

  • The protection group is deleted by mistake.
  • The SCC board has been replaced but the data about the protection group has not been delivered to boards.
  • An NE ID is changed. After the change, the SCC board is reset (cold), and then the system checks the database. Because the ID of the NE is changed, the system identifies that the NE is out of the protection group. Thus the protection group data is lost even if the case that the original NE ID is restored to the protection group.

Procedure

  1. As confirmed by the user, the NE ID has been changed. This shows that the loss of protection group data results from the ID change. After the protection group on the #1 NE is deleted and then re-configured, this problem is resolved.

Result

The problem is resolved.

The wavelength protection group information is closely related to the NE ID. Therefore, when you perform an operation that changes an NE ID, you need to check whether information about the protection group and NEs is complete and correct.
