Happy Tuesday everybody!
Browsing through older posts I realized that we hadn't had an 'as a Service' blog for a while now. It is a known fact that things done over the Internet have taken over world for quite some time, so a closer look should be had at this specific service category.
Therefore, today's topic will be about Logging as a Service or LaaS. Event logging has always been an essential part of an organization's routing, but given the advent of the 'as a Service' paradygm, Logging as a Service has become quite something in the enterprise world. Let us find out more about it in the following sections!

First things first, so let's try to understand the concept of Logging as a Service as a whole. Thus, for a very good explanation of what LaaS is, we are going to turn to TechTarget.com: 'Log aggregation and management software arose to satisfy the need for log-specific data collection, organization, archival and analysis tools. Like many IT functions, log management software has evolved into a category of managed cloud services - colloquially called logging as a service (LaaS) - to handle the configuration, operation and security of these complicated systems.'
Let's put things into perspective. A great paragraph which does exactly that comes from Tek-Tools.com, comparing traditional logging system with LaaS: 'traditionally, IT teams employ log viewers to view system logs directly or SSH into servers to access logs remotely. With these methods, they can find issues on a particular server or device. However, these methods of log analysis and troubleshooting have become impractical over the years; today, even small organizations have distributed cloud-based resources. With a large volume of logs coming from numerous devices, applications, containers, and more, it’s difficult to manage logs reliably.'
To put everything into simple terms, Logging as a Service is about 'renting out' all the necessary logging solutions, tools and software from a third-party vendor who makes them all available over the Cloud. Isn't technology just marvelous? :)
WHERE CAN LaaS BE USED?
Among the scenarios in which Logging as a Service can be used, there are quite a few that can easily be spotted. For example, we've got:
operations;
server management;
software crashes;
resource exhaustion;
security notifications.
LaaS BENEFITS
Logging as a Service provides countless benefits to the enterprise that decides to go with this approach. It is worth, thus, mentioning:
enhanced scalability - LaaS can easily adapt to the needs of the enterprise, downsizing or expanding according to the changes it goes through throughout the years;
more simplified log management - LaaS is ready for deployment within the network as soon as the first subscription's been paid, so no further configuration is needed;
instantaneous analysis - LaaS is about real-time fault search and analysis so that management can react faster than ever before to any unwanted incident occuring throughout the network.
THE BOTTOM LINE
Industrial digital transformation is no joke anymore - it's happening here and now and it's molding the enterprise world according to its 'will'. Since more business organizations have started the transition to the a 'as a Service' approach than ever before, Logging as a Service is not a thing of the future anymore.
