PRBS test is very useful for troubleshooting problems, but while using PRBS test, there are some limitations need to be noticed.
- The PRBS test will send data and check the data returned on tested channel to determine channel quality. So if a channel is carriing services, even if the channel itself working normal, the service will be interrupted by PRBS test.
- For one board, PRBS test can only be applied on one path in one direction at a time.
- PRBS test cannot be used when a protection is configured for this channel, for example, TPS, MSP, and SNCP. The PRBS test can be used for testing channels only when no actual services exist.
There are some board type related special limitations on PRBS test, need to check it specificly for each version of device.
For Example, this is some line boards not supporting PRBS.
Board Name | PRBS Function
Line Direction | Cross-connect Direction | Cause by Cross
N4SL64 N4SF64 N4SFD64 N4SLD64 N3SL16 N3SL16A N4SLQ16 N4SLO16 N3SLH41 N1SF16E TNN1HUNS3 TNN1HUNQ2 TNN1HSNS3 TNN1HSNQ2 | Support | Not support | Support |
N3SLO1 N3SLQ41 | Support | Support | Support |
N1EDQ41 | Support | Not support | Not support |
Other line boards | Not support | Not support | Support |
For these boards not supporting cross-connect direction PRBS tests, you can test this direction by create a cross-connect from this board to another board supporting cross-connect direction PRBS tests, in loop this board, and do PRBS board on that board supporting cross-connect direction PRBS tests.
