Limitations and Precautions for Configuring the Source IP Address in a DFS Group

1. Type of the source IP address

Source IP addresses are classified into the following types:

(1) ipv4

(2) ipv4+VPN

(3) ipv6

(4) ipv6+VPN

(5) nickname (dedicated to the TRILL feature)

The types of source IP addresses of M-LAG devices at both ends can be different.

2. Function of source IP

(1) During M-LAG pairing, the system checks whether the source IP address is configured. If the source IP address is configured, the M-LAG pairing negotiation is performed, but the connectivity of the source IP addresses of the M-LAG devices at both ends is not checked.

(2) The M-LAG heartbeat status is normal only when the source IP addresses at both ends of the M-LAG are reachable at Layer 3. If the source IP address is bound to a VPN, the M-LAG heartbeat status must be reachable at Layer 3.
