Dear shery,
Have a good day.
The iSCSI protocol uses the TCP/IP protocol to transfer SCSI commands between the host and the SAN node, enabling the connection of the SAN in the IP network. In order to better understand the iSCSI protocol, let's briefly introduce the SCSI architecture.
A network entity (Network Entity) is used in the iSCSI protocol to describe a device or gateway connected to an IP network. A network entity must contain one or more network portals. An iSCSI node in the network entity can access the IP network through any one of the network entries. An iSCSI Node (iSCSI initiator) is an iSCSI initiator or an iSCSI Target in a network entity, identified by an iSCSI name. The iSCSI name of the node is also the name of the SCSI device. One iSCSI node has only one SCSI device. The network entry is the component of the network entity responsible for implementing the TCP/IP protocol stack. The network entry of the iSCSI initiator is named only by its IP address, and the network entry of the iSCSI target is defined by the IP address and the TCP listening port.
I recommend you search ISCSI keyword in our community, hope this post can make you understand iSCSI protocol:

SCSI interfaces provide for faster data transmission rates (up to 80 megabytes per second) than standard serial and parallel ports. In addition, you can attach many devices to a single SCSI port, so that SCSI is really an I/O bus rather than simply an interface.
While iSCSI is Internet SCSI (Small Computer System Interface), an Internet Protocol (IP)-based storage networking standard for linking data storage facilities, developed by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). By carrying SCSI commands over IP networks, iSCSI is used to facilitate data transfers over intranets and to manage storage over long distances. SCSI can be used to transmit data over local area networks (LANs), wide area networks (WANs), or the Internet and can enable location-independent data storage and retrieval.
