Licenses simply release your work into the public domain or grant permissions to individual copies. It also means that you have given up copyright income, and there is no obligation to list you as an original author or contributor. Open source license agreements are easier to contribute to others without having to seek special licenses. It also protects your rights as an original, at least confirms your contributions.
