Is it able to have SDH service and packet service on one pair of fiber with our OSN3500 equipment?

Hi there, Community friends!

We have a network of OSN3500 equipment, which carries both TDM service on SDH-based boards and large bandwidth Ethernet service on the packet-based, each of which has dedicated boards. But on one fiber span, the distance is very long and the rent cost of fiber would be very high, is it possible to have the 2 types of service carried on one pair of fiber?

Thank you!

Hello,

If you want to solve this problem without adding no new equipment in the network, there are generally 2 ways to solve it.

1. If the board for the interconnection is working with plug-able optical modules, you can replace the original modules into single-fiber bidirectional optical modules, so that one service only needs one fiber to work. However, one should use a module compatible with the equipment, and this type of module normally can't work with a span longer than 40km and can't reach 10Gbps speed.

2. If both long distance and high speed are required, we can use the smart line boards on OSN3500 to do the job. The smart line board can work on a 80km-span and on 40Gbps speed, such as the HSNS3 boad. This kind of board can transfer the SDH service or the ETH services, or both of them combined.

for OSN3500 network, if the required bandwith of TDM service and ETH service less than 10G(***+ETH), it has no problem. if more than 10G then not available.

Yes, If the board for the interconnection is working with plug-able optical modules you need to use the MR4 board and color modules for this.
If the cost to rent a pair of fiber is too high, then this is a good option.
