Hello, everyone!
In this post, I would like to share with you an IPA overview.
Technical background
According to ITU-T G.664, the automatic power reduction (APR) and laser restart functions must be available in a dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) system.
Functions and Principles
Loss of signal (LOS) will occur after the fiber is broken, equipment fails, or an optical connector is removed. To prevent exposed optical fibers from hurting the human body, especially the eyes, and to avoid a surge of optical power on optical amplifier (OA) boards, the Huawei DWDM system provides the intelligent power adjustment (IPA) function. With the IPA function, when optical signals in one or more sections on the main optical path are lost, the system can detect the loss of optical signals on the link and decrease the output optical power of an upstream OA board and the output optical power of all the OA boards in the downstream section to a safe range. When the optical signals are restored, the OA boards in the system will resume normal operation.
Features
In the DWDM system, the IPA function is started only when the optical signals on the main optical path are lost. The IPA function monitors optical signals and shuts downs lasers on only the main optical path. It does not detect or process the optical power on the optical supervisory channel (OSC). Therefore, functions of the OSC are not affected after the IPA function is started.
Features
On a network, the OA board in the receive direction and the OA board in the transmit direction must be configured in an IPA protection group. Generally, the OA board in the receive direction is set as the detection board and the OA board in the transmit direction is set as the implementation board.
That's all, I hope you like it.
Thank you!
