Current Status
The number of connected IoT devices growing 9% to 12.3 billion globally, cellular IoT now surpassing 2 billion (where the population of the world is about 7 billion) in the year 2021.
In 2020, the highest number of IoT devices is found in China with 3.17 billion devices.
Prediction
It is expected to be around 64 billion in the next few years, due to the massive rollout of 5G networks around the globe. Huawei has predicted about 100 billion connections by 2025 in a report.

We are already working on 5G and other related communication Technologies so the IoT will be the next big thing because it will help us connect whether it’s about people or things or the process.
Everything that can be connected to the Internet will be connected.
Some Use cases
Consumer internet and media devices, such as smartphones, are the most common use case for IoT devices in the consumer segment, with the number of IoT devices expected to exceed eight billion by 2030. Connected (autonomous) vehicles, IT infrastructure, asset tracking & monitoring, and smart grid are further use cases that will have more than one billion IoT devices by 2030.

Key Factors
The IoT market is limitless. It's thrilling, but you need to design fantastic software and hardware, as well as a complex backend with several security layers, to bring order and sophistication to data, and to recognize that security is an art that includes cryptography. Most businesses lack the skills required to create secure goods.
5G Networks will help to boost IoT growth
AI will continue to become a bigger thing
Driverless Vehicles (Cars will get more smarter)
And The “things” will get increasingly inexpensive, applications will multiply, and connectivity will cost pennies.
