Install SMC2.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2 Highlighted

Good day to you!

Today I will show you how to install SMC2.0 on Windows Server 2012 R2.

This step applies to the following scenarios:

• Single-node SMC2.0

• SMC2.0 in a two-node cluster without disk arrays

Applicable Version

This document is divided into four parts:

1. Obtain the software.

2. Install Windows Server 2012 R2.

3. Install SQL Server 2014 Express SP2.
   

4. Install SMC2.0.

Let's Begin!

Obtain the software

In this installation task, we need to obtain the following software packages:

• Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard:  Download software from Microsoft official website

• SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe
  

  1. Log in to the Microsoft official website: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=53167.

  2. Choose English and click Download.

  3. Download the SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe.

• SMCInstall.exe
  

  Log in to SMC2.0, select the appropriate version, and download SMCInstall.exe.

Install Windows Server 2012 R2

1. Enter the OS installation page.

2. Select Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard (Server with a GUI) to install.

3. Select Custom: Install Windows only (advanced) to install.

4. Creating and Allocating Disk Space.

    If a partition exists in the system, delete it and then create it again.

    It is recommended that the space of drive C be at least 80 GB.

5. Format all partitions in sequence.

6. Click Next to start the installation.

    The estimated duration is 90 minutes. During the installation, the system automatically restarts for several times. Please wait patiently.

7. Setting the Administrator Password.

8. Configure firewalls, IP addresses, remote access, etc.

9. Installing operating system patches.

   Double-click the patches in sequence to install them.

   The patch path cannot contain Chinese characters. Otherwise, the patch may fail to run properly.

   If the system prompts you to restart the operating system during the installation, restart the operating system and continue installing the patches in the sequence described in the following table.

   If the message "The update is not applicable to your computer" or "xxxx is already installed on this computer" is displayed during the installation, the patch has been installed. In this case, install the next patch.

Install SQL Server 2014 Express SP2

1. Double-click SQLEXPR_x64_ENU.exe and select the installation path. You can retain the default value.

2. Select New SQL Server stand-alone installation or add features to an existing installation.

3. Select "I accept license term".

4. Check Installation Rules.

   If the Windows Firewall status is Warning, the firewall may not be disabled. In this case, disable the firewall. Once the firewall is turned off, you need to click Re-run until the status of Windows Firewall is Passed.

5. Select a feature to be installed. Retain the default settings.

6. Check feature rules.

7. Instance configuration. Retain the default value.

8. Service configuration. Retain the default value.

9. Configure the database engine. Select the Mixed mode and set the password of the SQL Server system administrator (sa). Generally, the password is www.Huawei.com.

10. Finish the installation.

Install SMC2.0

1. Log in to the installed operating system as the administrator and copy the SMC2.0 software package to the server.

2. Run SmcInstall.exe. In the decompression window that is displayed, click Extract to decompress the software package.

3. Open the SmcInstall folder extracted from the package and run the Setup.bat file to install the SMC2.0.

   The server will automatically restart during the first installation. After the server is restarted, re-log in to it.    

   Then the installation will continue. The installation takes about 30 to 40 minutes.

4. Specify whether to perform security hardening on the operating system.

   a. When the following information is displayed, the system asks you whether to perform security hardening:

SMC2.0 has been installed. Are your sure you want to perform security hardening on the server? [C] Cancel security. [S] Perform security hardening.:

      If you enter S and press Enter, go to b. If you press Enter without entering any information or enter C, the system exits security hardening. In this case, go to 5.

   b. Determine whether to continue to perform security hardening.

After security hardening, some services of the operating system are unavailable. For example, you cannot remotely log in to the SMC2.0 server or you may not be able to access the SMC2.0 web interface. Are you sure you want to continue security hardening? (Y/N default:N):

      If you enter Y and press Enter, go to c. If you press Enter without entering any information or enter N, the system exits security hardening. In this case, go to 5.

   c. Check whether the software packages involved in the subsequent installation and configuration have been uploaded.

Check whether the software packages involved in the subsequent installation and configuration have been uploaded. (Y/N default:N):

      If you enter Y and press Enter, go to d. If you press Enter without entering any information or enter N, the system exits security hardening. In this case, go to 5.

   d. Determine whether to perform security hardening.

Are you sure you want to perform security hardening? (Y/N default:N)

    ● If you enter Y and press Enter, the server automatically restarts after the security hardening is complete, indicating that the SMC2.0 installation is complete.

    ● If you enter N or press Enter without entering any information, the system exits security hardening. In this case, go to 5.

5. After the installation program is executed, type Y and press Enter. The SMC2.0 installation is complete.
