[Insider Sharing] Disaster recovery procedure for AC6605

Hi guys, today I’m going to introduce your disaster recovery procedure for AC6605.

Sometimes, things can get worse because of bad maintenance. By accident, you might be in the situation of installing a corrupted system software inside your device. During next power up,  it will not be able to boot up, system software CLI will be unavailable, so you will need to use bootrom to recover your system. 

In this kind of situation you need to act fast, users might be impacted, no time to waste. 

Let's take a common example and try to register necessary steps to accomplish system recovery. 

I will focus on AC6605 by trying to recover the system and install the mainstream official version. 

First of all, you will need a system-software and bootload software files:

AC6605V200R003C00SPC300.cc and ac_u-boot-octeon_ebb6300.bin .

Usually all necessary software can be downloaded from support website. 

Let's get this box working:

Step 1.  Press CTRL+B within 3 seconds and enter the BootROM menu of V200R002. The V200R002 boot password is huawei.

Step 2.  Enter 4 to display the submenu of the Ethernet interface.

Step 3. Enter 3 to set the parameters of the Ethernet interface.

For example, the following information is displayed if you select 2. Set FTP protocol parameters.

Step 4. After setting the ftp parameters , select 1 to upgrade bootrom to V200R003

Then, it will print this message:

Caution:  when update the bootrom, don’t power off or reset the device!

Step 5. After updated the boot file,  the system will automatically restart.  

Press CTRL+B within 3 seconds and enter the BootROM menu of  V200R003, The V200R003 boot password is admin@huawei.com

Step 6. Enter 4 to display the submenu of the Ethernet interface.

Step 7. Configure the TFTP server, enter 5 to set Ethernet interface parameters.

Step 8. Enter 4 to format the Boot disk and install the operating system through the Ethernet interface. Load the system software. Enter the name of the system software package ac6605v200r003c00spc300.cc in this example.The upgrade software package is automatically loaded in the memory. The AC6605 is formatted and upgraded. The upgrade takes around 30 minutes.

Step 9.  After the OS upgrade is completed,  the system will restart automatically.  But the boot is still V200R002, must update the boot file to V200R300 again, please do from step 1 to step 5 again. 

After update boot file, the system will start with V200R300 version.

Appendix:

In step 9, if you haven’t pressed ctrl + b to enter the BOOTROM MENU, the system will enter this case:

Final step: wait device to bootup.
