Dear fellow Community members,
I hope this post finds you in good health. The reason why I decided to start the topic like this is because I would like to tell you a story. A story about how humankind has and will always find a way, no matter the circumstances. A story about how the Internet prevails.
You most definitely know of the existence of Mobile World Congress. The largest trade show in the mobile communications industry in the world (more than 100 thousand people attended last year), with a heritage of more than 30 years of being around and held each year in the magnificent city of Barcelona, Spain.
But this year was different. COVID-19 outbreak, Spanish authorities cancel the whole event. But Huawei (including the Huawei Enterprise division) had prepared thoroughly for the event. What to do with all the knowledge that it wanted to share with the world? They wanted to speak live about various hot topics in the mobile communications world, topics like industrial digital transformation for example, but how to convey that after such a short notice?

After hours of counseling, Huawei bosses decided to take everything online. And so they did! This is thus the current context, in which your humble servant - your truly - will make a summary of the online events happened LIVE and ONLINE during the Industrial Digital Transformation Conference 2020. Let's get started then, shall we?
DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN THE FINANCE INDUSTRY

A very interesting talk about digital transformation in the Finance industry was held by Chen Kun Te, former CIO of China Merchants Bank and current Huawei Enterprise (Global Financial Services) Chief Digital Transformation Officer. One of his main points was that in order to better understand the digitalization of the Finance industry, the first step is to analyse current trends.
Consequently, the decrease in cash payments, the replacement of traditional payment methods with fully-digitalized ones (PayPal, Apple Pay, Alipay, etc.), or members of the supply chain offering better financing than the actual banks are but some of the drivers pushing towards digital transformation in the Finance industry. Banks are feeling 'threatened', so they must react to these 'stimuli'.
And they are. Although it sounds complicated, the transformational strategy is actually pretty straightforward. The recipe is the following: you take transaction processing operations, financial products and branches and you add apps, social e-commerce, gamification, video marketing and streaming services on top. And do you get? A digitally-transformed Finance industry keeping up with the fast-paced 'smartification' of the world.
DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN PUBLIC SERVICES

Another interesting topic discussed during the Industrial Digital Transformation Conference 2020 was related to the digital transformation in public services. This time, Dr. Alladin D. Rillo, Deputy Secretary-General for the ASEAN Economic Community showcased how the governmental services in ASEAN are being affected by digitalization and smartification.
After analysing the current state of affairs (the fast growing trend of online/cellphone users, the increase in overall automaton and AI adoption plans, a predicted online browsing value of $90bn by 2025), governments have come to the conclusion that digital transformation in not optional anymore. It is a MUST if they want to empower both the public and private sectors.
Therefore, tmeasures to be implemented such as 5G ecosystem development, a more relaxed international mobile roaming policy, or manufacturing smartification are believed to be the secret of success in the digital transformation of the governmental services.
DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION IN THE ENERGY SECTOR

Finally, the Energy sector is also undergoing digital transformation. According to Liu Jianming (Director of the Expert Committee on Smart Grid Technology and Equipment that is part of the Industry Development and Promotion Center of the Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), the switch towards renewable energy, the energy-resource structure and the move towards full integration of energy services are but a few factors pushing the digital transformation in energy.
How is the industry reacting? They are embedding AI, Big Data and 5G ICT solutions, Cloud network platforms, or intelligent video services into streamlining the energetic efficiency and into optimizing resource consumption. 'Innovation' is also another hot word when talking about digital transformation in the energy sector, as innovations like Smart Glasses and Intelligent Inspections have already been adopted in the sector and are positively contributing towards its smartification.
All in all, future's looking bright for mankind. Industries, as well as governments have understood the importance of digital transformation and are actively taking measures in order to increase their efficacy.
Let's see what tomorrow brings! Stay tuned for more content on Huawei Enterprise and its contributions to building a fully connected, intelligent world!
