Symptom
On a network built with the OptiX OSN 6800, services are interrupted. The problem is caused by excessively high insertion loss (16 dB) on the CRPC board. After the CRPC board is replaced, services are restored. However, the new CRPC board reports the BD_STATUS alarm on the NMS and pump power of the board cannot be set.
Cause analysis
Possible causes of the problem are as follows:
- The network cable between the CRPC board and the SCC board is malfunctioning.
- An error occurs in mailbox communication on the CRPC board.
- DIP settings of the CRPC board are incorrect.
Procedure
- Before the CRPC board is replaced, no BD_STATUS alarm is reported and communication with the SCC board is normal, Therefore, the network cable between the CRPC board and SCC board is normal.
- Perform a test. The test proves that the new CRPC board is normal. The DIP settings of the new CRPC board may be incorrect. There are two jumpers on the CRPC board, J3 and J4, which are used for setting the board IP address. DIP setting rules of the board are listed in the Reference Information. After the DIP settings are changed according to the rules, the alarm is cleared.
Reference Information
There are two jumpers on the CRPC board, J3 and J4, which are used for setting the board IP address. Figure 1 shows the jumpers.
Pins 9 and 10 of J3 and pins 1-6 of J4 are used for internal identification of the CRPC board. To ensure normal operation of the board, set the pins of the jumpers according to the following rules:
- Open-circuit pins 1 and 2 of J3.
- Open-circuit pins 3 and 4 of J3.
- Open-circuit pins 5 and 6 of J3.
- Open-circuit pins 7 and 8 of J3.
- Open-circuit pins 9 and 10 of J3.
- Short-circuit pins 1 and 2 of J4.
- Short-circuit pins 3 and 4 of J4.
- Short-circuit pins 5 and 6 of J4.
Pins 7, 8, 9, and 10 of J4 are used to set the IP address of the CRPC board. On the same NE, when multiple CRPC boards are used, IP addresses of these CRPC boards must be set and an IP address conflict must be avoided. Set the IP addresses according to the following rules:
- To set the board IP address to 192.168.0.28, open-circuit pins 7 and 8 and open-circuit pins 9 and 10.
- To set the board IP address to 192.168.0.29, short-circuit pins 7 and 8 and open-circuit pins 9 and 10.
- To set the board IP address to 192.168.0.30, open-circuit pins 7 and 8 and short-circuit pins 9 and 10.
- To set the board IP address to 192.168.0.31, short-circuit pins 7 and 8 and short-circuit pins 9 and 10.
