In traffic policing, two token buckets (one bucket is called the C bucket, and the other the P bucket) can be configured to measure traffic in more complex conditions and implement more flexible traffic control policies. Tokens are put into the C bucket at the committed information rate (CIR), and the bucket size is called the committed burst size (CBS). Tokens are put into the P bucket at the peak information rate (PIR), and the bucket size is called the peak burst size (PBS). The CBS is smaller than the PBS.
