In-band & Out-band Management

Hello all,

Today I would like to share some information about the DCN data control network through which network performance can be monitored and faults identified. We can define DCN as the network that transfers management traffic between network components, it is a vital and important part of any communication management network.

Network Management

There are two basic methods of network management:

1-In-band network management

2-Out-band management (OOB).

In-band Management

In in-band we Create a VLAN for management activities such as device monitoring, system logging  and Created with Vland Services and taken the same path as Vlan Services and VLAN ID used by an in-band DCN must be different from the VLAN  used by services.

Out-Band Management

in Out-band we use dynamic routing protocols such as OSPF for management activities such as device monitoring, system logging and separate from services traffic and in this type management Maybe down and traffic still up ,out-band maybe divided into areas to reduce traffic.

we can use the two types In-band & Out-band in the same time for high critical device.

Difference In-band and Out-Band

1-IN-BAND

A-depends on create Vlan.

B- Vlan Created with services Vlans.

C- Takes the same path of services.

2-OUT-OF-BAND MANAGEMENT

A- depends on Dynamic routing protocol such as  OSPF .

B- depends on IP address and areas.

C- maybe alternate path.

 RTN Inband DCN

1-Configuring the VLAN ID and Bandwidth Used by an Inband DCN

The VLAN ID used by an inband DCN must be different from the VLAN ID used by services and the bandwidth by an inband DCN must meet the requirements of the transmission network for managing messages.

1-  from function Tree  Choose Communication > DCN Management .

2- Click the Bandwidth Management tab.

3- Set the VLAN ID and bandwidth used by an inband DCN.

2-Configuring the Priority of Inband DCN Packets

set the VLAN priority and DSCP value carried by inband DCN packets.

1- from function Tree choose Communication > DCN

2- Click the Packet Control tab.

3- Specifies the priority of inband DCN packets.

2

3-Configuring Inband DCN Ports

set inband DCN channel attributes, such as, the inband DCN enabled/disabled state and the VLAN ID.

1- from function Tree Choose Communication > DCN Management from the Function Tree.

2- Click the Port Settings tab.

3- Optional: Select E1 and set port parameters for the ports that need to use inband DCN.

3

4-Configuring Access Control

When the equipment is connected to the NMS through an Ethernet service port, you need to configure access control.

1- from function Tree choose Communication > DCN Management from the Function Tree.

2- Click the Access Control tab.

3- Set the parameters for configuring access control.
