Hi friend!

Hybrid – hybrid port is a port connected to either switches or hosts. It can receive both tagged and untagged frames and assigns untagged frames a default configured VLAN (Port VLAN ID).

The following table provide a short introduction on Access, Trunk and Hybrid Port Modes.

No’Port TypeSupport ModeCommon Use CasesComment/s
1.AccessSingle Untagged VLANPC / Printer to Switch
2.TrunkSingle Untagged VLAN + Multiple Tagged VLAN’sSwitch to Switch, Hypervisor to Switch-VLAN 1 can be Tagged (Untagged by default)
3.HybridSupport Untagged VLAN’s & Tagged VLAN’sPhysical Connection: IP Phone to Network Switch Port & a PC to IP Phone’s Switch port

Logical Connection: Voice VLAN as Tagged & Data VLAN as Untagged & Switch port in Trunk mode

-Usually the Untagged VLAN number = Native/Default VLAN number
-Support for multi-Untagged Frames, usually require the use of protocol-based VLANs
-VLAN 1 can be Tagged (Untagged by default)

Hope to help you!

Hybrid is a special type of Layer 2 interface. Similar to the interface of the trunk type, the interface of the hybrid type can also carry data from multiple VLANs, and it can flexibly set whether the interface carries the tag when sending the data frame. On the other hand, hybrid interfaces can also be used to deploy IP address-based VLAN partitioning.
