18.6 Example for Configuring Mesh Services
Networking Requirements
As shown in Figure 18-6, an enterprise has three office areas: Area A, Area B, and Area C. Restricted by geographical locations, AP1 in Area A can connect to the AC through wired links, but AP2 in Area B and AP3 in Area C cannot connect to the AC through wired links. A WMN needs to be constructed in the three areas so that AP2 and AP3 can access the enterprise network.

Configuration Roadmap
The configuration roadmap is as follows:
Configure AP1 to go online on the AC.
Configure mesh services so that APs in Area B and Area C can go online through mesh virtual links.
Configure basic WLAN services to provide Internet access services for WLAN users in Area B and Area C.
AP | Type | MAC Address |

Procedure
Configure the router.
# Configure an IP address 192.168.101.2/24 for GE1/0/0 on Router.
Configure AP1 to go online on the AC.
Choose Configuration Wizard > Configuration Wizard > AP Online Configuration Wizard. The AP Online Configuration Wizard page is displayed.

Configure the Ethernet interface.
# On the Configure Ethernet Interface page, click
next to GigabitEthernet0/0/1 to add the interface to VLAN 100 and VLAN 101 in tagged mode.
Configure virtual interfaces.
# Click Create on the Configure Virtual Interface page. The Create Virtual Interfacepage is displayed.
# Configure an IP address 192.168.100.1/24 for VLANIF 100.

# Configure an IP address 192.168.101.1/24 for VLANIF101.
# Click Next.
Configure DHCP.
# Click Create on the Configure DHCP page. The Create IP Pool page is displayed.
# Configure an IP address pool for VLANIF 100.

# Configure an IP address pool for VLANIF 101. Specify that the IP address 192.168.101.2 in this address pool cannot be automatically assigned to STAs.

# Click Next.
Configure the AC.

Confirm the settings.
On the Confirm Settings page, confirm that the settings are correct and then click Finish.
Configure the mesh service.
# Choose Configuration Wizard > Configuration Wizard. The WLAN Configuration Wizardpage is displayed.
Configure the MPP node AP1.
# Select Wireless Mesh Network (Mesh) and click Next. The Configure AP page is displayed.

# Click Create on the Configure AP page to add the MPP node AP1 and click OK to return to the Configure AP page. Select AP1 and click Next. The Configure Radio page is displayed.

NOTE:You can also add AP2 and AP3 on the Configure AP page, but you can only select AP1 as the MPP node.
# Select 5 GHz on the Configure Radio page, and click
next to Radio profile. The Create Radio Profile page is displayed. On this page, set parameters for the radio profile mesh-radio.
# On the Configure Radio page, set Mesh role to mesh-portal and Mesh whitelist status to Enable. Set Channel bandwidth to 40mhz-plus, Channel to 157, and other parameter, and click Next. The Configure WLAN Service page is displayed.

# Create a mesh profile named mesh-profile on the Configure WLAN Service page. Create a security profile named mesh-security on the Create Mesh Profile page.

# Create a mesh whitelist named mesh-whitelist on the Configure WLAN Servicepage. Add MAC addresses of the MPP and MP nodes on the Create Mesh Whitelistpage and click OK to return to the Configure WLAN Service page. Select mesh-profilefor Mesh Profile and mesh-whitelist for Mesh Whitelist and click Next. The Confirm Settings page is displayed.

# Confirm that the settings are correct, and then click Finish.
Configure the MP nodes AP2 and AP3.
NOTE:On the WLAN configuration wizard, the procedure you follow to configure an MP is the same as that to configure an MPP. The only difference is that some parameters have different values. The parameters for all the MP nodes have the same values. This example only lists configuration steps in which different parameter values must be set for AP2 and AP1.# Select AP2 on the Configure AP page and click Next.

# Set Mesh role to mesh-node on the Configure Radio page.

Check whether mesh links have been set up successfully.
It takes several minutes for mesh links to be set up after you complete the preceding steps. If the AP status on the Configure AP page is displayed as normal, mesh links have been set up successfully.

Configure a static route.
# Choose IP Service > Route > Static Route Configuration to create a static route.

Configure the WLAN service.
Choose Configuration Wizard > Configuration Wizard > WLAN Configuration Wizard. The WLAN Configuration Wizard page is displayed.

Select Common WLAN Service and click Next.
Configure APs.
# Select AP2 and AP3, and click Next.
NOTE:When configuring the mesh funciton, you are advised to configure only mesh services on MPPs to prevent other services from affecting the mesh network performance.
Configure the radio.
# Select 2.4GHz on the Configure Radio page and click
next to Radio profile. The Create Radio Profile page is displayed. Create a radio profile named huawei-profile on the Create Radio Profile page and select this profile on the Configure Radio page.

Configure the WLAN service.
# Click Create on the Configure WLAN Service page. The Create Service Set page is displayed. Click
next to Security profile to create a security profile huawei-security.
# Click
next to Ess interface to create an ESS interface for WLAN service. Set ESS interface ID to 1, PVID to 101, and Untagged VLAN to 101.
# Click OK to return to the Create Service Set page, and then click Next.

Confirm the settings.
# Confirm that the settings are correct, and then click Finish.
Verify the configuration.
# The WLAN with the SSID huawei is available for WLAN users in Area B and C.
# The STAs can associate with the WLAN and obtain IP addresses 192.168.101.x/24 and the gateway address is 192.168.101.1.
