The universal transcoding MCU provides better conference experience and faces many technical challenges:
1. the universal transcoding MCU supports connection of any protocol, format, and bandwidth. Each participant connects to the MCU with the optimal video capability. After decoding each participant image, the MCU needs to generate multiple images with proper sizes according to the viewing participant's formats and continuous presence (CP) mode requirements. This poses a challenge to the image scaling algorithm and the chip's image scaling operation capability.
2. each participant has an image codec and the image codecs are distributed on different chips. Therefore, a large amount of image data needs to be transmitted between different chips at a high speed and low delay. High-speed image data transmission between chips is also challenging.
3. the processing capability of each board is limited. When a large-capacity participant is involved, the participant needs to be connected on different boards. In this case, a large amount of image and voice data needs to be transmitted between multiple boards at a high speed and low delay.
4. when a telepresence participant is connected, how to use the universal transcoding MCU to provide better conference experience is another question.
5. when multiple MCUs are cascaded, how to implement better conference experience during cross-level viewing of a telepresence participant is also a complex issue.
