2 Information Collection Methods

2.1 Preparing Tools and the Environment

2.1.1 Installing  SmartKit

Step 1      SmartKit consists of two type packages: tool package and function package. Click the following link to download the latest tool package.

http://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/software/23226685-SW2000039477

Find the latest tool package SmartKit V2R5C00RC3_en.zip:

Step 2      Install the function package of SmartKit.

The following tools need to be installed: Information Collection, Inspection, Upgrade Evaluation Tool(G2), and InfoGrab. If the tools have been installed on your SmartKit, check whether they have new versions. If they have new versions, update the tools before using them.

Check the version:

Please install or update the newest function package of the “Inspection”/Infograb/UpgradeEvaluation Tool using ToolStore.

If your client is inaccessible to the Internet, download the function package using another client that is accessible to the internet, and then choose SmartKit > ToolStore > Import to import the function package.

The link is as below:

note

Before collecting information, ensure that the tools mentioned above are all installed.

2.1.2 Adding the Storage Device to SmartKit

Step 1      Type the management IP address (IP address of any controller) of the storage device as well as the user name admin and the corresponding password.

2.3 Collecting Information in SAN (Block) Service Scenarios

2.3.1 Using InfoGrab to Collect Information About the Fibre Channel Switch

Step 1      Confirm that the client can access (SSH) the Fibre Channel switch.

102430izqjyb6bqq6exbo9.png

Step 2      Choose the switch vendor (Brocade or Cisco).

2.3.2 Using InfoGrab to Collect Configuration Information of the Service Host

Step 1      Confirm that the client can access (SSH) the host, and then start InfoGrab.

Step 2      In Device Type, choose Host and the corresponding host type. Then, type the management IP address of the host.

In many scenarios, multiple hosts are running on a storage device. If the hosts have the same type of services and physical configurations (such as HBA, OS, and multipath configurations), you only need to collect the configuration information about one of these hosts. If the hosts have different service types and physical configurations, you need to collect the configuration information of them all.

For a Windows host that uses MPIO without Ultrapath, collect MPIO information based on the following procedure:

1.         Query the running parameter of MPIO.

Start PowerShell and run the dism /online /get-features command to check whether MPIO is installed and enabled.

102434chmvzwpimw0mbhdr.jpg

2.         Query MPIO configurations.

Run the mpclaim –v command to query MPIO configurations. The default configurations are generally retained, so maybe no information is returned.

102435ap7jnnmn067w2o58.png

3.         Check the MPIO status.

In PowerShell, run the mpclaim –s –d command to query multipath disks. Then, run the mpclaim –s –d 1 command to query the path status of a disk (disk 1 is used as an example).

2.4 Collecting Network Topology Information

Example:

102437kymgro9ir08pmko1.png

Check whether each controller has a path to the host for the redundancy of service access paths.

After all information mentioned in chapter 2 is collected, send them to Romania Global Technical Assistant Center (GTAC). Romania GTAC will provide the links for uploading the deliverables.

The information collection methods provided in this document do not apply to any change operation on live networks. Change operations cannot be performed unless related risk evaluation is complete.
