I'm considering buying a new Huawei P40 Pro, especially now when they have a nice discount with watches and earbuds. BUT without google apps and locked bootloader it's NO go!

Currently, there're some shady ways of installing GAPPS but in order to do that first you need to install some APK from unknown source and enter your google credentials there. That's not going to happen!

On my older samsung I used to install trwp and flashing custom rom's and then installing gapps. It was they way to go, but I was getting those from known resources, like xda dev's forum.

I really recommend to reconsider company policy and start giving bootloader unlock codes by request from users.

Hi! Regarding your inquiry about Unlock Bootloader code, we would like to inform you as follows:
1. Huawei ensures that product hardware and software are optimized for your device, but after you unlock the bootloader, we cannot guarantee optimum performance or that all functions will operate normally.
2. Most third-party firmware has not been adequately tested and has poor compatibility with Huawei devices, which will affect your device’s stability or even cause damage to your device’s hardware. For example, some firmware may result in excessive power consumption that reduces your device’s standby time and battery lifespan, or the RF performance of your device may be impaired, which may lead to network search failure or poor call quality. Some firmware may even prevent your device from starting and you will not be able to restore the system, meaning that your device will be rendered unusable.
3. Third-party firmware may be vulnerable to malicious software attacks. For this reason, data security cannot be guaranteed. For example, your personal data such as contacts, messages, and location data may be disclosed. Malicious software may also send SMS messages to subscribe to paid services or make calls in the background, incurring inadvertent charges. Malicious software may even be used by others to monitor your device.
4. Some functions will no longer work after you unlock the bootloader. For example, you will no longer be able to use Digital Rights Management (DRM) keys and digital content that you have purchased. Upgrading software using Firmware Over-The-Air (FOTA) or a microSD card may fail or your device may not function properly after upgrading.
Besides, there are many other risks that may occur on your device after unlocking the bootloader. So to achieve better user experience and security, Huawei has decided to completely terminate the unlock application service.
We are sincerely sorry for possible inconveniences.

Sounds like a list of poor excuses to not let the customer decide what to install on their hw. There are plenty of apps and software that could drain battery and cause all sorts "issues", and breaking the he" that are not covered by "warranties" from the vendor. These kind of decisions are simply customer unfriendly and just makes Huawei lose the support and goodwill they have from consumers who think it has been treated unfairly by Google and the American trade-war effo
