Huawei’s Most Powerful Agile Switch Chips and New Switch Models Debut at CeBIT 2016

Today at CeBIT 2016 in Hannover, Germany, Huawei launched its most powerful Ethernet Network Processor 2.0 (ENP 2.0) series chips to be used on agile switches, as well as the new 4*100GE and 48*10GE high-performance cards that use the ENP 2.0 chips. The new chips and cards are intended to accommodate the requirements that new applications have for high reliability, high bandwidth, and large networking scale, and further advance the evolution of the next-generation network architecture. In addition, Huawei showcased both its next-generation full-10GE fixed switch S6720S-26Q-EI-24S with a depth of 220 mm as well as the next-generation enhanced Ethernet UPOE+ switch S5720-14X-PWH-SI that provides up to 90 W Power over Ethernet (PoE) power supply per port. These new products will assist enterprises in transforming IT operations from a cost-centric to a profit-centric model, and achieving the business goals of highly efficient management, operational excellence, accelerated transformation, and innovation.< /p>

Cloud computing, Bring Your Own Device (BYOD), Software-Defined Networking (SDN), Internet of Things (IoT), and Big Data technologies are prevailing worldwide, bringing with them unprecedented changes and challenges. Traditional switches using application-specific integrated circuit (ASIC) chips are unable to address these challenges due to the inflexibility of ASIC chips. Huawei had already launched the industry’s first programmable ENP chip dedicated to Ethernet forwarding, and has now upgraded it to the ENP 2.0. The ENP 2.0 chips are able to forward traffic at a rate of up to 480 Gbit/s. Moreover, the programmable, energy-saving ENP 2.0 chips are complete with a large table capacity, a large buffer, and an elastic architecture, capable of helping enterprises quickly develop a variety of new services at lower costs. The 4*100GE and 48*10GE cards using the ENP 2.0 chips are able to enhance wired/wireless convergence and precise IP network quality detection, improve network management simplicity, and accelerate new service provisioning.

Huawei next-generation full-10GE fixed switch S6720S-26Q-EI-24S can connect 10GE servers in data centers and be deployed as core switches on small- and medium-sized campus networks. This switch model provides 24 full line-speed 10GE ports and 2*QSFP+ ports, supporting high-density access of 10GE servers. Additionally, the 220 mm deep device can save installation space by being easily installed into a 300 mm deep rack.

Huawei next-generation enhanced Ethernet UPOE+ switch S5720-14X-PWH-SI provides a 90 W ultra-large power supply per port, so is able to supply power to an abundance of terminals. This switch model is fit for smart office systems, smart lighting systems, as well as AP/Pico co-site. It is able to simplify network power supply deployment and lower Operations and Maintenance (O&M) costs.

At present, Huawei’s global Ethernet switch market share ranks among top 3. Represented by agile switches, Huawei Ethernet switches are serving more than 600 customers in multiple verticals around the world, such as education, finance, energy, healthcare, transportation, and government. The customers include Newcastle University, Tsinghua University, People’s Bank of China, China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec Corp.), China Central Television (CCTV), Haarlemmermeer Municipal Government, and Brazil’s Presidential Palace.
