Today, I will continue to share my knowledge about ports and cable connections.
Ports and Cable Connections
Some Huawei ONTs provide ports on their sides, and some provide ports on their rear. Huawei ONTs provide multiple ports to meet various service requirements.
The following table lists the ports and cable connections.
| Port | Description |
| POWER | This power port is connected to a power socket. |
| TEL | - This telephone port is connected to a telephone or fax machine. - The telephone function is available only after the fixed-line phone service is enabled on the carrier side. - If there is only 1 telephone port, it needs to implement both the fax and telephone functions. Contact the fax machine manufacturer for help. |
| LAN | - It is generally a yellow network port connected to a computer, IP set-top box (STB), or router. - A LAN port may be marked as GE, FE, IPTV, or LAN. - An ONT with a GE port is a GE ONT, while an ONT without a GE port is an FE ONT. - An ONT with both GE and FE ports preferentially uses the GE port. - A LAN port can be connected to a PC network port through a network cable to achieve dialup access. - A LAN port can be connected to the WAN port (blue network port) of a router through a network cable to achieve wireless access. You need to configure the WAN port on the router. For details, contact the router vendor. - A LAN port can be connected to an IP STB through a network cable to run web TV services. You can also connect an IP STB to a router to run web TV services. |
| CATV | It is connected to a cable TV. |
| USB | It is connected to a USB device: - To an electronic device such as a mobile phone or pad: The ONT supplies power to the electronic device. - To a printer: PCs, mobile phones, pads, and other terminals connected to the ONT can access this printer which then becomes a network printer. (Some Huawei ONTs provide this function.) - To a USB storage device (such as a removable hard disk): The ONT data can be backed up. - To a USB storage device: PCs, mobile phones, pads, and other terminals connected to the ONT can access the USB storage device to implement network share. (Some Huawei ONTs provide this function.) |
Optical port | It connects to an optical port on the wall or a weak-current box through an optical fiber to receive upstream optical signals. |
