Hello all,

Can I force my router to reply to a traceroute with the IP of a certain interface, meaning not the usual that reply to the traceroute with the IP address of the ingress interface?

I would like to set that my router reply to traceroute, mtr with the Loopback IP.

Greetings

Hello,

I think we didn't really understand each other. I have several Loopback interfaces on the router, all of them have ip addresses. When I do traceroute from my network the router replies with ip 172.16.200.1 (Loopback0). On another Loopback interface I have a public ip address and I would like the router on traceroute or mtr reply that ip address.

Below is a traceroute from the current situation( Look at the point 2):

# ADDRESS LOSS SENT LAST AVG BEST WORST
1 185.188.68.198 0% 12 0.3ms 0.3 0.2 0.4
2 172.16.200.1 0% 12 0.9ms 1.3 0.9 4.9
3 83.142.192.70 0% 12 1ms 1.3 0.9 1.9
4 89.46.144.185 0% 12 0.6ms 1.1 0.6 3.1
5 108.170.250.209 0% 12 10.7ms 10.7 10.6 10.8

Hello Florek,

I think using NAT and route map would achieve that

Ping and tracet are essentially sending icmp messages
The icmp message received by which interface of the device will reply to the icmp message with the IP of which port, and the IP cannot be changed.
