Hello, everyone!
Today, I will continue to write about the Huawei campus optiX solution, about IP+POL. Let’s get started.
POL+IP solutions are expected to provide: high bandwidth (GPON or XG(S)-PON), high reliability, wireless network (WiFi 6) with high coverage and data transfer speed (with authentication), multiple services (HSI, video, VoIP), the simple network for construction, monitoring, management.
IP + WiFi 6 is used to cover public areas. For rooms such as hotel rooms, conference rooms, dormitories, etc. a POL solution is used. In the next figure, we can see typical IP+POL topology on the campus. This is the Huawei campus optiX solution.

Figure 1. IP+POL topology on the campus
The POL solution provides a separate optical fiber for each room or room where the ONU device is installed.
iMaster NCE-Campus provides a unique monitoring and management system. Through the SNMP protocol, the iMaster NCE-Campus communicates with the POL system (OLTs and ONUs), while NETCONF is used for the management and monitoring of the firewall, LAN switch, and AP.
Wireless APs and ONTs use PSK authentication. ONTs do not support roaming, only APs do Layer 2 roaming.
The gateway has the role of a core switch. The recommendation for the core switch is S6730-H, while for access switches the PoE model S5735-L is used. The USG6500E can be used for the firewall.
OLT EA5801-GP08 or EA5801-CG04 and ONTs EG8145V5 can be used in the POL part of Huawei OptiX solutions. These are all suggestions. There are many more models of this equipment offered by Huawei, it depends on the campus network.
In figure 2, we can see steps for IP+LAN configuration.

Figure 2. IP+POL configuration
There are 8 steps:
create a site,
add a core switch to iMaster NCE-Campus,
add an OLT to iMaster NCE-Campus,
configure a traffic template (it is optional),
configure a scenario template,
configure a ZTP policy,
bring the ONT online, and
verify the configuration.
This is the end of this topic. I will continue to write about this topic in the next article >> Huawei Campus OptiX Solution (6): Application Scenarios.
Thank you!
