In addition to the Navigator, PuTTY is sometimes used in the maintenance of the optical transmission network. This time, I'd like to share with you common operations related to PuTTY login, logout, and usage(DC908 is used as the operation object).
Logging In to the PuTTY Tool
1. After the putty.exe file has been installed on the terminal, double-click the PuTTY icon. The PuTTY Configuration dialog box is displayed.

2. Set PuTTY parameters.
Description | |
Host Name (or IP address) | The physical IP address of the target NE, for example, 10.168.19.100. |
Port | The default port number is 22. |
Protocol | SSH is recommended. |
Saved Sessions | Below Saved Sessions, enter descriptive information about the NE IP address and click Save. Then you can select the descriptive information to log in to the desired NE. |
Close window on exit | Only on clean exit is selected by default. |
3. Perform the following operations to log in to the Linux operating system of the board:
Click Open. The PuTTY running window is displayed.3. Perform the following operations to log in to the Linux operating system of the board:
Enter the user name root after Login as:, and press Enter.
Set Password, which is Changeme_123 by default. Press Enter. If the login is successful, the previous login information is displayed.
Logging Out of the PuTTY Tool
Use either of the following methods to log out of the PuTTY tool:
On the PuTTY running window, enter the exit command and press Enter.
Directly close the PuTTY running window.
Right-click the title bar of the PuTTY running window and choose Close from the shortcut menu.
Common Operations Related to PuTTY
After copying the desired command, right-click the PuTTY running window to paste the command.
Press ↑ or ↓ select an entered command.
Right-click the title bar of the PuTTY running window and choose New Session to open another PuTTY running window.
Reference: PuTTY Parameter Settings in Case of a Serial Port Connection
If the IP address of the equipment is unknown, you can obtain the IP address through the Console port. Set the following parameters in the PuTTY window.
1. Choose Serial from the navigation tree, and set parameters on the right pane.

Set Serial line according to the equipment connection information. For details, see Device Manager > Port on the PC.
Set Speed to 38400.
Retain the default values for other parameters.
2. Choose Session from the navigation tree, and set parameters on the right pane.

Set Connection type to Serial.
3. Choose Terminal from the navigation tree, and enable local echo for the serial port connection.

Choose Force on for Local echo.
Click Open.

1. You have obtained PuTTY of the latest version from the following link and have installed it on your local PC.

2. You are advised to install the PuTTY tool in full-screen mode. To ensure normal display, do not zoom in or out the PuTTY window during the installation.
3. The installation program does not support inputs through the keypad. You can use the "Tab", "←", "→", "↑", and "↓" keys to switch parameters.
4. To prevent repeated installation, do not open multiple PuTTY windows during the installation.
5. Use PuTTY to log in to the NCE server in SSH mode.
