This scenario is recommended when the host or laptop used to install SmartKit can connect to the Internet. Step 1 Decompress the SmartKit installation package downloaded in 3.1.2.1 Downloading the Tools. For example: SmartKit VxRxCxxRCx.zip. ![]() After a SmartKit installation package is downloaded by following instructions in 3.1.2.1 Downloading the Tools, copy it to the host or laptop where you want to perform a disk upgrade, and decompress and install it on the host or laptop. Step 2 Double-click the decompressed SmartKitVxRxCxxRCx.exe file to install it. Step 3 After the installation is complete, open SmartKit. On the Operation Safety Precautions page, click Confirm. Procedure Step 1 After SmartKit and upgrade tool plug-ins are installed, choose Home > Function Management, and click Export. On the Function Management page, click Import and select the function package copied in previous step to import it. 3.1.4 Obtaining a Firmware Package Download the firmware package of the corresponding version from https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/cloud-storage/storage-medium-pid-23196996/software. 4 Performing the Upgrade This chapter details how to perform the disk upgrade.4.1 Upgrade Prerequisites This part describes the prerequisites for upgrading disk in online and offline mode. Prerequisites 1. By default, do not upgrade disks, unless you receive upgrade or rectification notices from the R&D or maintenance departments of storage products. 2. Before the disk upgrade, make sure that all the controllers have been upgraded to the target version and the state of system is normal. 3. Before the disk upgrade, refer to section 3.1.3 Confirming Versions Before an Upgrade to check whether your version supports upgrades by SmartKit. If not, install the latest patch based on the solution in the section table. 4. You cannot upgrade coffer disks in slots 0 to 3 of enclosure DAE000 in versions earlier than V300R003C10. For V300R003C10 and later, you can use the same way to upgrade coffer disks as that of common disks. 5. After the coffer disks in slots 0 to 3 are upgraded, power off and on coffer disks separately. For details about how to power on and off a single disk, see section 5.4 Powering Off and On a Disk. 6. Only the disks of models listed in the version mapping table can be upgraded. ![]() Confirm the product model by obtaining the version mapping table in http://support.huawei.com/enterprise/. 4.2 Upgrading Disks This section describes how to upgrade disks. Procedure This section describes how to upgrade disk by SmartKit. ![]() l Upgrading disks is risky. Before performing operations described in this section, confirm whether the upgrade is necessary with R&D engineers. ![]() l During disk upgrade, the storage system reports major alarms indicating that disks are removed and the storage pool is degraded. You can ignore these alarms as they will be cleared automatically after the upgrade. If you do not want to receive these alarms during disk upgrade, see 5.1 Method of Masking Certain Alarms During Disk Upgrade. 4.2.1 Disk Upgrade Procedurel To find out which product models and versions support disk upgrade using SmartKit, choose Upgrade > Disk firmware upgrade > Add Device > List of Supported Devices, as shown in the following figure. ![]() Disk upgrade flowchart shows the procedure. Procedure Step 1 Open SmartKit. On the Home page of SmartKit, click More > under Upgrade/Patch Installation. On the Basic Information page, fill in the management IP address of the device and click Next. Step 8 Click Browse. In the dialog box that is displayed, select the desired firmware package and click OK. For details about these versions, refer to Storage Device Versions Supporting Disk Upgrades by Importing a Disk Firmware Upgrade Package other versions, you can skip this step. ![]() Step 9 Select the disks that you want to upgrade. If you select All disks of the system, all the disks of the device will be upgraded. Select the disks that you want to upgrade and then click OK. ![]() ![]() After you click Customized disks, the tool queries all disks on the device. The time for querying disks varies with the network status and number of disks. Step 11 In the Upgrade Mode area, select the upgrade mode. Online is selected by default. Prerequisites l The device has been added to the device management list. l The status of the storage system is normal, and the storage system has no major or critical alarms. l The storage system is running at off-peak hours. Context l If anomalies occur on ports when you are using the tool, check whether you are forced offline. l If the login user is in the insecure state, the system displays a dialog box asking the user to change its password on OceanStor DeviceManager or CLI. l When upgrading a device, do not change passwords, force users offline, or force users to change passwords upon the next login. Otherwise, the upgrade fails. Procedure Step 1 On the Upgrade page, select the device and click Perform Upgrade. ![]() Step 2 In the Warning dialog box that is displayed, click OK. ![]() ![]() Before the upgrade, ensure that the storage system meets the requirements displayed in the Warning dialog box. Otherwise, the upgrade may fail. Step 3 The system automatically starts to perform a pre-upgrade check, as shown in the following figure.![]() Step 4 After the pre-upgrade check is complete, the system starts to perform the upgrade. The system automatically obtains disk information and upgrades the disks in online mode. The upgrade succeeds.
