Hello friends, sometimes in our work, the transport network already existed when we started to work on the network administration and when a new SDH node is inserted into the network the next day we find the following alarm NE Software Management - Automatic Backup operation failed which the NMS gives us the following reasons:
Common Reasons: 1) Device is not reachable. 2) NMS settings are incorrect. 3) Device Trap not received.
If there is communication with the node, we discard cause 1 and for an SDH network we analyze cause 2 and for a packet network, cause 3. In our case it is reason 2 and it is usually due to the absence of the SDH elements having several users with different functionalities, so it is necessary for new equipment of the OSN or RTN family to create a user with Debug level.
First we go to Administration / NE Security Manegement / NE User Manegement

And we add to the right part of the window the NE that we want to add a user we can use the search function
to quickly find the NE. Then we add a user

for example user_backup with Debug Level and we put a password of 8 characters with letters, numbers and symbols.
With the user created, we go to Administration / NE Security Manegement / NE Login Manegement

and on the right we take the DC Login User manegement tab and as in the previous procedure we launch the NE in question into that window, we cannot help again with the search.

Then with the Switch NE User option we put the username and password that we previously created.

Then we can only verify by making a backup of the NE that everything went well. Let's go to Administration / NE Software Manegement / NE Data Backup / Restoration.

We look for the NE in question and click on Backup ... and the process must be successful.
