Hello Community,

We have a Huawei CH121 V3 server in E9000 chassis setup. We're missing root password of its iBMC and need to reset the same or set a new password for "root" user. Is there any method available to reset the iBMC root password remotely? If yes, kindly share the steps or any reference document or if you have any other ideas, please share.

Note: It's not about resetting the HMM password or change the default password of iBMC. Default password of the iBMC was already changed immediately after the installation of server. Here, I just want to reset a forgotten password or set a new password for "root" user of server's iBMC.

Any help or suggestions are highly appreciated. Thank you so much.

Hi, friend.

Sorry, you can reset the password remotely.

You can use the serial port to log in to the u-boot  and reset the iBMC password of CH121 V3.

1. Use PuTTY to log in to the server.

2. Press and hold the UID button on the server for 6 seconds to restart the iBMC.

3. When "Hit 'ctrl + b' to stop autoboot: 1" is displayed, press Ctrl + B.

4. Enter the default U-Boot password.

The default password of U-Boot is Huawei12#$.

5. Run the printenv ver command to query the U-Boot version.

6. Reset the data using datafs.

  • If the U-Boot version is 1.1.37 or earlier, run the following commands:

    fsload /usr/upgrade/datafs.jffs2

    datafs_cp

  • If the U-Boot version is later than 1.1.37, run the following command:

    datafs_reset

7. Run the reset command to restart the iBMC.

The restart process takes about 3 minutes.

After the iBMC restarts, the iBMC default settings are restored.

The default password of root is Huawei12#$

Thank you so much, Stephen.
I have a few queries:
1. What's point of step-1 i.e. Use PuTTY to log in to the server. Where we need to open PuTTY - On remote jump server or by connecting a laptop to the physical server using serial port cable? And do we need to connect to the server management IP or iBMC IP?
2. Will restarting the iBMC impact the server or its operations?
3. Since u-boot method restores the default configurations of the iBMC, so will it reset all its network config. also?

Hi,
1. Yes, you use the putty to log into the server by connecting a laptop to the physical server using a serial port cable.
2. There is some impact on the server because the server will restart.
3. Yes, the network also will be reset.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Is there any way to reset the root password for individual iBMC using chassis HMM?

Sorry, there are only two ways to reset the password.

Sorry, dear!

As I know, you cannot reset the password using the HMM.

You can use the way as I said or the Peterhof(MVE) said.
