Powering off the VCN3010/VCN3020

This topic describes how to power off the server.

Scenarios

  • Devices need to be replaced during maintenance.

  • Devices need to be moved.

Impact on the System

After the server is powered off, services and programs running on the server will be interrupted.


Preparations

Prerequisites

After a device is powered off, all services and programs are terminated. Therefore, ensure that all services and programs have been stopped or migrated to other devices before the power-off.

Data

  • Save all data before the power-off.

  • Confirm the No. of the cabinet where the device to be powered off is located and specific location of the device.

  • Obtain the IP address, user name, and password of the iBMC management port.

Tool

Prepare an ESD wrist strap or ESD gloves.


Procedure

You can use any of the following methods to power off the server:

  • Press the power button at the upper right corner of the front panel and wait for 3 to 4 minutes. When the power indicator turns from green to yellow, the server is successfully powered off.

  • Hold down the power button at the upper right corner of the front panel for about 6s. When the power indicator turns from green to yellow, the server is successfully powered off. (This method may damage the file system. Use it only when the operating system cannot be logged in or the pressing operation does not take effect.)

  • Log in to the operating system using the KVM or service network port (the default user name and password are root and Change_Me, respectively). Then run the poweroff command to shut down the operating system and power off the server.

  • Use the interface provided by the iBMC WebUI to power off the server. In the address box of a browser, enter the IP address of the VCN30X0 management port and log in to the iBMC WebUI (the default user name and password are root and Huawei12#$, respectively). Select Power, choose Power Control in the navigation tree on the left, and select Power Off. When a message about power-off is displayed, click OK.

Disconnect the power cable

When the server has been powered off, disconnect the power cable.
