How to modify the default BootROM password for S series switches?

Hi!

To modify the default BootROM password on the S series switches, you use one of the following methods:

1. Modify the default password on the BootROM menu.

a) Log in to a switch through the console port, and restart the device.

b) When information similar to "Press Ctrl+B to enter Boot Menu…" or "Press Ctrl+B or Ctrl+E to enter BootROM menu…" is displayed, press Ctrl+B or Ctrl+E and enter the default password to access the BootROM main menu.

c) Select Enter password submenu and then Modify BootROM password to set a new password. For switches running V200R006 or an earlier version, you can directly select Modify bootROM password in the main menu to set a new password.

2. For the S series fixed switches (V100R006C05 and later), you can also reset the BootROM password using the following command. <HUAWEI>system-view[HUAWEI] bootrom password changeOld Password: New Password(6 to 79 chars):

Confirm Password(6 to 79 chars): Note: For the S2750EI, S5700LI, and S5700S-LI running V200R007 or a later version, before running this command, you must run the display startup [ slot slot-id ] command to check the system software version for next startup. If the system software for next startup is V200R005 or an earlier version, the BootROM password cannot be changed.

Hello,

You are advised to change the password to prevent unauthorized users from accessing the BootROM but you need to not forget the new passowrd because it's very difficult to reset or recover it.

The BootROM main menu password is Admin@huawei.com by default and possibly huawei on a device running earlier versions.

NOTE:

You can also run the bootrom password change command to change the password of the BootROM main menu.

Procedure

In the BootROM main menu, select 6 to enter the password submenu.

          BootROM  MENU

    1. Boot with default mode
    2. Enter serial submenu
    3. Enter startup submenu
    4. Enter ethernet submenu
    5. Enter filesystem submenu
    6. Enter password submenu
    7. Clear password for console user
    8. Reboot
    (Press Ctrl+E to enter diag menu) 

Enter your choice(1-8): 6

       PASSWORD  SUBMENU

    1. Modify BootROM password
    2. Reset BootROM password
    3. Return to main menu

Enter your choice(1-3):

In the password submenu, select 1 to enter the page for changing the BootROM password.

       PASSWORD  SUBMENU

    1. Modify BootROM password
    2. Reset BootROM password
    3. Return to main menu

Enter your choice(1-3): 1

Old password:     //Enter the old password.
New password:     //Enter the new password.
Verify:           //Enter the new password again.
