How to know which interface of a switch links to another switch?

In SDH networks, the J0 byte is used to identify path. Is there something similar in both level 2 and 3 packet networks?

Hi lucian2003,

You can use the port description command to configure the description of an interface, including the type of the device connected to the interface.

I hope it helps!

the Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) should detect if another LLDP enabled device is connected to the switch. as I understand the question right.

Switch] lldp enable # to enable lldp on the switch

switch> display lldp neighbors brief # shows lldp enabled connected devices

Hello, I mean if there is a header byte to identify the path, that is, I send the word welcome and I have to receive it on the other port.

I think that you can use display mac-address to find the interface with attached mac of the sender. Also interfaces with a lot of addresses are connected to the switches :)
If you are looking for some address that you know then you can filter the output with | inc PARTofMAC
