[ VSCSI mode ]
The following figure shows the working principle of the VSCSI mode.
In VSCSI mode, storage resources are shared. Virtual I/O servers (VIOSs) integrate resources into a single block storage pool and allocate the resources to clients using SCSI LUNs.
In this mode, install UltraPath on VIOSs after you enter the AIX environment by running oem_setup_env.
[ NPIV mode ]
The following figure shows the working principle of the NPIV mode.
VIOSs facilitate sharing by adapters so that clients (VIOCs) can connect to the SAN network through FCP ports. In this mode, virtual HBAs can be viewed directly on VIOCs (VMs).
In this mode, install UltraPath on VOICs (VMs).
