Handling Loss of the Password of User root
This section describes how to handle the loss of the password of user root.
For the Dopra Linux or SUSE Linux OS, if the password of user root is lost, you cannot log in to the OMU.
To ensure system security, the password of user root cannot be retrieved once it is lost. In this situation, reinstall the OMU OS based on the OS type or reset the password of user root.
1. If the password of user root is lost, perform the following operations based on the OS type.
If... | Then... |
The OS is Dopra Linux | Go to 2. |
The OS is SUSE Linux | Reset the password of user root using the OMU troubleshooting tool. For details, see Restoring the Server Through the OMU Troubleshooting Tool. |
2. If the password of user root is lost, perform the following operations based on OMU working mode.
If... | Then... |
The OMU works in independent mode | Use the USB flash drive preparation tool to make a USB installation flash drive in switching mode. Reinstall the OMU OS and product software. For detailed operations, see Preparations and Installing the OMU Operating System and Product Software Using a USB Flash Drive. |
OMUs are configured in active/standby mode | · If the password of user root is lost on one OMU board, switch the OMU board to the standby mode. Use a USB flash drive preparation tool to prepare a USB installation flash drive in switching mode. Reinstall the OMU OS and product software. For detailed operations, see Preparations and Installing the OMU Operating System and Product Software Using a USB Flash Drive. · If the password of user root is lost on both OMUs, use a USB flash drive preparation tool to make a USB installation flash drive in switching mode for the standby OMU board and reinstall the OMU OS and product software. For detailed operations, see Preparations and Installing the OMU Operating System and Product Software Using a USB Flash Drive. Switch over the OMUs and perform the preceding operations on the new standby OMU. |
NOTE:
To manually switch over the OMUs, run the SWP OMU command or use the LMT. For detailed operations, see BSC6900 GU LMT User Guide .
