Hi all,
In this blog, we will talk about ensuring the availability of Transmission Nodes with some guidelines on how to do basic steps if any node gets offline, also about the power system for Telecommunication, and what it means for power systems to be reliable, and some cases.
In the latter part, I will describe different steps for troubleshooting guidelines for making transmission reliable.
Power System
Power reliability is the ability of a power system to maintain a high level of service, in terms of voltage and frequency, to customers.
The reliability of an optical transmission system depends on the quality of power components and their design and the quality of maintenance practices.

A study by the International Energy Agency (IEA) found that power systems with a high proportion of renewable energy sources have worse reliability than those with only fossil fuel sources.
Transmission Network & Power System trustworthiness
Transmission infrastructure is a critical component of every network. As a result, transmission network availability is critical. Detailed discussion on Transmission Network Reliability Assurance Plan can be seen here
Troubleshooting guidelines
In case of a Transmission node offline issue start troubleshooting and resolving issues with
First check Optical fiber cable availability and reliability like fiber cable’s optical power is within the threshold.
Check if there are any service-affecting alarms on the transmission node and if there are no power issues at the site.
Boards alarms i.e Hardware related
Tunnel / PWs related issues.
Check if there is any unwanted switching in the network or anomaly.
Also it’s worthwhile checking traffic utilization for any congestion.

Guidelines for further analysis
To restore the site, we first need to collect spares from the warehouse or any other stock so the site can be restored on new chassis/boards.
After that, we can collect logs and required information for further analysis so these are some suggested steps to be taken to restore sight at the earliest.

Conduct JV (Joint Visit) with all stakeholders i.e. Site Owners (who maintain power systems) Transmission nodes’ support team and L2 expert.
Collect the DG logs of faulty site
AC/DC grounding confirmation from site.
Take a photo from the power board along with the power cable to the connector of the rectifier.
Take a detailed photo of the rectifier. Please record the log as well.
Take photos for AC input connector and DC output connector of power supply equipment including commercial power and rectifier, grounding of power supply equipment.
Please take the overall picture diagram for the site & power cable connection
Ending Remark
Regular network inspection is always suggested in order to guarantee that the network runs smoothly and to address any possible problems in the network early on.
