Hello everyone,

In this post, I'll introduce you a way to disable specific 802.11 legacy standard on AC.

Problem Description

To achieve a better WLAN signal coverage, you can restrict WLAN access from weak-signal or low-rate STAs at the edge of the coverage area. Low-rate STAs refer to legacy terminals that support only 802.11a, 802.11b, and 802.11g protocols. These terminals provide a rate far smaller than 802.11n and 802.11ac terminals. If the legacy terminals access the wireless network, data transmission rate of the 802.11n and 802.11ac terminals will be reduced.

To improve the wlan service by restricting the access of stations supporting a legacy standard we can follow one of the next procedures :

1) Deny the access of legacy terminals which support 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g we can use the undo legacy-station enable command which should be applied under the radio-profile view:

After the command is is applied, stations that support the standards mentioned above won't be able to connet to wi-fi anymore.

# Deny access of legacy terminals.
<AC6605> system-view
[AC6605] wlan
[AC6605-wlan-view] radio-profile name radiopf
[AC6605-wlan-radio-prof-radiopf] undo legacy-station enable

2)Deny the access of a specific 802.11x standard.

For example, let’s say that we want to deny the access of  802.11b access. A way to do this is by disabling the rates supported by the 802.11b standard in the radio profile( 2 Mbps, 5.5Mbps, 11Mbp ). If you do this the STAs which support just the rates specified by the 802.11b standards, won't be able to access the wi-fi

This operation can be done in the following way:

< AC6605>system-view

Enter system view, return user view with Ctrl+Z.

[AC6605-wlan-view]radio-profile id 1

[AC6605-wlan-radio-prof-radio]undo 80211bg basic-rate  //undo all supported rates because by default all the rates are supported.

[AC6605-wlan-radio-prof-radio]80211bg basic-rate ?      // specify  the basic rate set which must be supported by both the AP and STA so that the STA will be able to associate with the AP

  1     1 Mbps

  2     2 Mbps

  5     5.5 Mbps

  6     6 Mbps

  9     9 Mbps

  11    11 Mbps

  12    12 Mbps

  18    18 Mbps

  24    24 Mbps

  36    36 Mbps

  48    48 Mbps

  54    54 Mbps

  all   ALL

[AC6605-wlan-radio-prof-radio] 80211bg basic-rate 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54  // select all the rates except the ones that are supported by 802.11b standard
[AC6605-wlan-radio-prof-radio]undo 80211bg supported-rate
[AC6605-wlan-radio-prof-2.4g]80211bg supported-rate 6 9 12 18 24 36 48 54   /// The AP and STA can transmit data at all rates specified by the supported rate set

After the above configuration is made,  we need to apply the radio profile to an AP and then the STAs won’t be able to associate with the AP without supporting the mentioned rates.

That's all for this case, hope it could help you.

If you have any questions about this case, please comment below, and I'll help to resolve that.
