Hi,

We have setup gpon network with OLT 5603T and some 5626MDU, and olt configured as dual-homing network protection. the OLT 5603 software version is MA5600V800R018C00. Now we see two different configuraiton guides.

one configuration guide mentions to require layer 2 port isolation on core switches, and both OLT managemenet IP addresses should be in different subnet.

https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/doc/EDOC1100016413?section=j014

But another configuraiton guide, doesn't mention such requirement. Both OLT management IP addresses can be in same subnet, and no need to configure port isolation on core switches.

Please advise, thanks.

Hi!

For the switch connection to the OLT, the L2 switch doesn't need to do the port isolatation. The L3 switch needs to do the port isolatation.

Thanks for your reply. can you advise why layer2 switch not need to configure the port isolation? both OLT uplink will learn mac-addresses.
If doing the port isolation, the OLT management IP addresses need to be configured to different subnet ,
for examle, OLT 1 IP address 192.168.1.5/24, OLT 2 IP address 192.168.2.6/24, otherwise, both OLT cannot communicate with each other. Another question, if OLT management IP addresses are different, will affec****U to communicate with OLT
because need to via layer 3 routing.

2 documentation ,1 is from OLT product documentation (OLT documentation will not mention)how switch configure .
another documentation is for the solution . hope you can understand .

thanks. But the configuration are totally different, the steps also different. If need to configure port isolation on upstream core switches, then need to use different subnet for OLT management IP address.
But in the product document, both OLT can use same subnet IP addresses, does it work?

hi, you are right , both need to configure the port isolate , otherwise the MAC address will be flapping.

for configure with different subnet , from the document not mention need to do that .

If configure port isolation on core switches, then OLT management IP should be different, and OLT 1 communicate with OLT 2 via layer 3 routing. If OLT 1 and OLT 2 configure IP in same subnet, then how to communicate with each other when port isolation configured. Please advise, thanks.

you can see the example configure from the link below.
https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/doc/EDOC1100016413?section=j014
IP address

192.168.68.5/24 (OLT A)

192.168.78.8/24 (OLT B)
different subnet, so communicate via layer 3 routing.
