HiCoins as reward: 3 (problem unresolved)

My main router (ONT) is HG8245W5. I want to extend my WLAN via Ethernet cable to the upper part of my house by using my older router HG8245 as an Access Point. How can I do that?

Thanks !

Hello, friend!

Confirmed:

The HG8245 is a GPON ONT and cannot be configured as an AP, and the ONT also does not support serial connection.

If you need to extend wifi, you only have to use a separate AP device.

Thanks!

Thanks. Now that I have invested in both devices (HG8245 and HG8245W5), How can I make good use of them without throwing any of them away? Can I connect them as primary and secondary router? appreciate your help.

If you use a home network, you can select only one ONT as the routing terminal.
If you are an enterprise user, you can set the second ONT to the bridging mode to transparently transmit Ethernet services.

Hello,

The EchoLife HG8245, an Optical Network Terminal (ONT), is a high-end home gateway in the Huawei FTTH solution. By using the GPON technology, ultra-broadband access is provided for home and SOHO users.

The HG8245 provides two POTS ports, four GE/FE auto-adapting Ethernet ports and one Wi-Fi port. The HG8245 features high-performance forwarding capabilities to ensure excellent experience with VoIP, Internet and HD video services.

Therefore, the HG8245 provides a perfect terminal solution and future-oriented service supporting capabilities for FTTH deployment.

Also, it matches with the below product with the same function:

PORT MAPPING CONFIGURATION

1. In the navigation tree on the left, choose Forward Rules > Port Mapping Configuration. In the pane on the right, click New. In the dialog box that is displayed, set the parameters related to port mapping, as shown in Figure 1.

Figure 1. Port mapping configuration

fig_service_012701.png

2. Click Apply.

Port mapping indicates that the Intranet server is allowed to be open to the Extranet (for example, the Intranet provides the Extranet with a WWW server or FTP server). Port mapping is to map the Intranet host IP address and port ID to the Extranet IP address and the corresponding port ID so that users from Extranets can access the Intranet server.

With port mapping, the users cannot see the Intranet IP address. They see the Extranet IP address.

Table 1 describes the parameters related to port mapping.

Thanks for the informative response. Can you please explain if the HG8245 will be a second router in this case? Please provide more details on how I can connect both routers and configure them accordingly? Appreciated.

Query the ONT nameplate to determine whether an ONT supports routing. If "gateway HGU" is
marked on an ONT nameplate, the ONT is of the gateway type and supports routing. If "bridging
SFU" is marked on an ONT nameplate, the ONT is of the bridging type and does not support
routing.
