Hello everyone,

In our environment, we have E9000 chassis with CH121 v3 servers installed. There is VMware ESXi OS installed on those servers.

Recently on one of the server, a local hard disk failed and we got it replaced by the vendor. After replacecent of faulty disk, the disk fault error disappeared and server turned into healthy state.

Server has 2 local hard disks with RAID 1 (not sure, but just guess it is RAID 1). However, I am new to Huawei hardware and I don't find any option in server iBMC to check which RAID group the server has and what is progress of RAID group rebuild after the disk replacement.

Can anyone please guide how to check the RAID level of locally installed disks and how to see the progress of RAID group rebuild if a disk gets replaced. Please suggest if there is any additional utility  or commands for RAID management.

Thank you so much.

Hello, dear!

Have a nice day!

You can refer to the Huawei V2 and V3 Server RAID Controller Card User Guide 38.

This document describes the appearances and features of the redundant array of independent disks (RAID) controller cards, how to configure properties for the RAID controller cards, and how to install drivers. The RAID controller cards include the LSI SAS2208, LSI SAS2308, LSI SAS3008, LSI SAS3108, LSI SoftRAID, PM8060, and PM8068.

Hello Olive,

Thank you for sharing good information.

Well, in addition to Megacli I came to know about one more utility called tStorcli or Storcli64. But these utilities need to be installed on the OS and then used on command line. I am looking for some GUI based option like iBMC where I can check local disks information, their RAID grouping, RAID status etc. Is it possible? Or is there any separate RAID management tool by Huawei?

Yes, Vikramaditya!
As Stephen.xu says, you can use the iBMC to check the RAID information.
1. Login to the iBMC, check the System info>Storage.

Thank you Olive and Stephen.
Under Information > System Info. > Storage, I can see the RAID card and physical drives listed under it. But there's not much information. I can see following warning:
"The information of RAID controllers, logical drives, and SAS/SATA physical drives depends on the out-of-band management function of the RAID card, and is displayed only after BIOS boot is complete."
Can you help how to enable or fix this so all information gets displayed.
Thanks a

What's the model of your RAID?
You can check whether your RAID supports out-of-band management through https://forum.huawei.com/enterprise/en/technical-specifications-of-raid-controller-cards/thread/514837-895.

Hi Olive,
RAID model is LSI SAS2308. As per the document https://support.huawei.com/enterprise/en/doc/EDOC1000004186/d54b6e90/raid-controller-cards, I think this RAID controller model does not support OoB management. In that case what would you suggest? Is there only option now to install MegaCLI or Storcli utility on ESXi server and use iBMC CLI to query and manage RAID?
