How ping works in layer 2

I would like to ask how ping packet works between two PCs connected in the same network (L2)

To our understanding, the ping operation uses the request packet and reply packet, and the prerequisite for the ping operation is that the address of the peer party is known. According to your description, I think you mean the Layer 2 protocol on the network rather than the Layer 2 protocol of the IOS. If the source and destination addresses belong to the same network segment, they are Layer 2 networks. In the case of cross-network segments, Layer 3 forwarding is required on the gateway.

Hi,

Ping works by sending an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request to a specified interface on the network and waiting for a reply. When a ping command is issued, a ping signal is sent to a specified address. When the target host receives the echo request, it responds by sending an echo reply packet.

It's not possible to ping a packet in layer2 without an IP configured (management vlan).
Ping works by sending an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request to a specified interface on the network and waiting for a reply. When a ping command is issued, a ping signal is sent to a specified address. When the target host receives the echo request, it responds by sending an echo reply packet.

And why the ping works with a VLAN management? what's the difference?
