Hello everybody!
Today, I want to continue to write about internet speeds. This is the second and last article about this theme. In the previous article, I wrote about the need for internet speeds. Now, I will write about speed tests.
Speed tests are applications that provide real-time information on data rate and latency. There are variants of speed tests for PC and mobile phones. Speed test works by we send data (a file of a certain size) to the nearest server (or the server we choose). After that, that server sends data (a file of a certain size) to our device. All these data transmissions are measured by the application on our device.
Speed tests give us the following information:
Ping (latency). This is the time required for the signal to travel to and from the internet server. Values are given in milliseconds (ms). This parameter is most important for online gaming and video communication.
Downstream speed. This is the speed of data transfer from a server to our device. The unit is Mbps. This is one of the most important parameters and is important for all internet requirements (Youtube, browsing websites, downloading files, etc).
Upload speed. It is the speed of data transfer from our device to some server. This is very important for video calls – viber, skype, zoom, sending documents, backing up files to the cloud, etc. The unit is Mbps.

Figure 2. Speed test – settings
As we can see in Figures 1. and 2, the speed test shows us ping, download, and upload speed. Speed test allows settings like change server, and global settings – time format, date format, unit of distance, unit of speed. And we can see the name of our ISP, public IP address, and location. After the measurement is completed, we can see the measurement graphs. Also, we can see the history of others.
Nowadays, there are many speed tests. The best speed tests are Meteor, V-SPEED, Cloudflare Speed Test, Ookla Speedtest, SpeedTest Master, SpeedSmart Speed Test, Fast, Speedof.Me and FCC Speed Test.
This is the end of this topic. I hope you learned something new.
Thank you!
