The half-duplex mode has the following characteristics:

A device can either receive or send data in one direction at one time;

CSMA/CD is required;

This mode applies to short distance transmission.

The full-duplex mode has the following characteristics:

A device can receive and send data simultaneously;

The throughput is doubled compared to the half-duplex mode;

This mode has no limitation on the transmission distance.
