Hello everyone,
Today we talk about the methods for SSDs destroy data. In the industry, four methods are available to destroy SSD data (methods 1, 2, and 4 are supported by Huawei SSDs).
1. Physical destruction: Melt SSDs in a forge or smash them in a flash chip shredder. The shredded flash chips must be smaller than 3 mm x 3 mm in terms of area. Working principle: Internal circuits and storage units of flash chips are damaged physically. Advantage: Flash chips containing confidential information can be damaged in this way, especially melting. This method is mature and similar to the destruction method of HDDs.
2. Safe erase: Use common erase commands to erase flash chips. Apply a voltage of 12 V to attract electrons from flash chips (floating gate or charge trap). Advantage: For businesses, this method protects confidential information and enables reuse of SSDs.

3. High-voltage destruction: Different from safe destruction, this method destroys flash chips. After the destruction, the flash chips cannot be used to save data. This method applies to applications requiring a high confidentiality level. Since this method has fire risks, it is not supported by Huawei SSDs and is developed at a small scale by some companies for special customers.

4. Private key destruction: applies to disks using AES 256 encryption or OSCCA-approved Chinese algorithms. Working principle: Data is encrypted by private keys. When the keys are destructed or changed, data becomes meaningless.

This is what I want to talk about, thanks!
