How do I configure the voice mailbox?

Q: How do I configure the voice mailbox?

A: Configure interworking data on the unified gateway and UMS respectively. Then, configure the voice mailbox service rights and register the voice mailbox service for users. After that, users can use the voice mailbox service.

Data Plan

Configuring Data for Interworking with Huawei UMS

Configure the UMS IP address, UMS domain name, and SIP trunk on the unified gateway to connect to the UMS.

Step 1          Log in to a U1900 series unified gateway using the CLI and access the Config mode.

Step 2          Set software parameter 352 to 1 on the unified gateway to enable software parameter 352.

Step 3          Run the save command to save the configuration.

Step 4          Use an administrator account to log in to the web management system of a U1900 series unified gateway.

Step 5          Add an office route selection code.

1.    Choose Trunk > Office Route Configuration > Office Route Selection Code and click Create.

2.    Set Office route selection code (for example, to 80) and click OK.

Step 6          Add an office route.

1.    Choose Office Route Configuration > Office Route and click Create.

2.    Set Office route ID (for example, to 80) and Office route selection code (for example, to 80), and click OK.

Step 7          Configure the local outgoing prefix.

1.    Choose Trunk > Called Prefix Configuration and click Create.

2.    Set Prefix (for example, to 1521), Service type to Basic service, Call property to Local call, and Office route selection code (for example, to 80), and click OK.

Step 8          Configure a SIP trunk.

1.    Choose Trunk > Trunk Configuration > SIP and click Add Peer Office.

A red line is displayed between local and pointX.

2.    Click the line between local and pointX. Set Domain name of the peer device (for example, to ums), IP address of the peer office (for example, to 192.168.1.7), and Select office route number (for example, to 80), and click OK.

Step 9          Add unified access code 91002 for retrieving messages.

1.    Choose Trunk > Called Prefix Configuration and click Create.

2.    Set Prefix (for example, to 91002), Service type to Supplementary service, and Call property to Retrieve message, and click OK.

Step 10          Configure the voice mailbox.

1.    Choose User > Global Service and click Configure next to VMS. In the VMS window that is displayed, click Create.

2.    In the Create voice mailbox window, set voice mailbox parameters and click OK.

       Set Voice Mailbox Number (for example, to 0).

       Set Voice mailbox type to External UMS.

       Set Voice Message Access Code (for example, to 91002).

       Set Voice Message Prefix (for example, to 1521). This parameter indicates the local outgoing prefix configured in 7.

Step 11     Click Back.

Step 12     Click Data Save in the upper right corner of the web management system.

Configuring the Voice Mailbox Service Rights

Step 1     Use an administrator account to log in to the web management system of a U1900 series unified gateway.

Step 2     Choose User > SIP User, select a number (such as 81000), and click Service Configuration.

Step 3     Under Complex service, click Configure next to Forwarding service. Configure the CTVMU service for user 81000 and click OK, as shown in Figure 1-3.

Step 4     Click Back.

Step 5     Click Data Save in the upper right corner of the web management system.

Registering the Voice Mailbox Service

Step 1     Use an administrator account to log in to the web management system of an IP phone.

Step 2     Choose Advanced > Service Permission Management.

Step 3     Set Authorized for the voice mailbox service to register to Yes.

Step 4     After the configuration, perform the following steps to verify the configuration result:

l  Call transfer to voice mailbox unconditional (CTVMU): Pick up the phone and dial *91#. Then, the announcement indicating a service registration success is heard.

l  Call transfer to voice mailbox on busy (CTVMB): Pick up the phone and dial *92#. Then, the announcement indicating a service registration success is heard.

l  Call transfer to voice mailbox on no reply (CTVMNR): Pick up the phone and dial *93#. Then, the announcement indicating a service registration success is heard.

l  Call transfer to voice mailbox offline (CTVMO): Pick up the phone and dial *98#. Then, the announcement indicating a service registration success is heard.

Configuration on the BMU

Step 1     Log in to the BMU management system as the admin user.

Step 2     Choose Functions > Services > Client Parameter Settings and click 20180709103415666005.png next to Other parameters, as shown in Figure 1-5.

Step 3     Click 20180709103417506007.pngand change the value of UMSAccessCode to the actually planned access code for retrieving messages, for example, 91002, as shown in Figure 1-6.

Configuration on the UMS

On the UMS, configure the data for interworking with the unified gateway, load licenses, add users, configure notification policies, and set monitoring parameters based on the site requirements.

Verification

l   Activating the voice mailbox service for users

The IP phone 7910 is used as an example. On the phone screen, choose Apps > Pref. > Call Settings, enable Call Forward, and select the service of call forwarding to voice mailbox.

l   Leaving a voice message

a.         Have user 81100 call user 81000.

User 81100 hears an announcement, prompting him or her to leave a message

b.         Have user 81100 leave a message as prompted and hang up.

c.         The MWI on user 81000's phone blinks.

l   Voice message retrieval

Have user 81000 press the message button on the IP phone or dial the unified access code for retrieving messages 91002.
