This time, I will share with you a case where the transmission node was offline and no Hardware-related or optical fiber issue occurred.

 Problem Description 

One of the customers complained about two transmission nodes had fluctuation (It went offline & came back after some time) at remote locations and had the following alarms on NCE.

 Troubleshooting Steps  

1. We queried NE alarms on Transmission NMS (NCE-T. Only two alarms were found (NE-NOT_LOGIN & NE_COMM_BREAK)

2. Check Optical length from ODF (Optical Distribution Frame), found to be OK.

3. We made a query about the laser status of the optical module. It is found that the port is in the ON state and the optical port is not looped back.

4. Checked the alarms and the performance events of the boards at both ends. The alarms and performance events were normal. It is suspected that the pigtail may be incorrectly connected.

5. Pigtail at both ends was checked and found OK.

6. Lastly we engaged the team to connect the system and got the logs from the navigator.

7. In navigator log, we clearly seen TXN NEs got issues due to DC power onsite as Reset type 0xf0000004 belongs to DC power reset.

Root Cause 

Both NEs got issues due to DC power onsite. Below are navigator logs, Reset type 0xf0000004 belongs to DC power reset.

So it was escalated to concerned team that DC power supply system unstable and made this fluctuation.

Solution

Improve the efficiency of the electricity distribution system and Optimize the power supply system.

Summary 

     Transmission equipment is a critical component of any network's construction. Because of this, ensuring that the transmission network is available is critical.

 Taking the necessary safeguards and actions to avoid accidents or equipment breakdowns is what preventive maintenance (PM) is all about.
