Q: How Can I configure the DID of the U1900?

A: DID includes two dialing modes to make intra-office calls: digital trunk and AT0 trunk. The configuration methods are different. For details, click More.

What is the DID?

Direct Inward Dialing (DID) enables external users to directly call intra-office users without being forwarded by calling the automatic switchboard. DID is also called Direct Dial-In (DDI) in Europe.

To enable DID, two numbers must be configured for each user. One is a short number used for intra-office calls. The other is a long number used for external calls. External users can directly dial long numbers to call intra-office users. Long numbers are allocated by telephony service providers.

The DID service can be enabled for specific or all users. When an intra-office user with the DID service makes an external call, the user's long number is displayed on the phone of the called party. When an intra-office user without the DID service makes an external call, the switchboard number is displayed on the phone of the called party.

Figure 3-1 shows the differences between the DID mode and the non-DID mode.

Configuring DID

Configuring DID When Digital Trunks Are Used

Configure long numbers for users to enable the DID function for these users. Take the SIP user as an example, user A's short number is 81001 and long number is 28881001, Outer-office user B calls user A. The configuration method for the POTS user is the same.

Step 1    Use an administrator account to log in to the web management system of a U1900 series unified gateway.

Step 2    Configuring long numbers.

1.        Choose User > SIP User and click Create.

2.          Configuring long numbers, as shown in Figure 3-2.

3.    Click OK.

Step 3    Configure intra-office prefixes 28881 and 81.

1.   Choose Trunk > CalleePrefix Configuration and click Create.

2.   Configure prefixes 28881.

Configuring DID When AT0 Dedicated Lines Are Used

AT0 dedicated lines are allocated by the carrier. After a user is connected to an AT0 trunk, the number allocated by the carrier is the DID long number of the user.

note

This topic describes how to configure the DID service. For details about the AT0 trunk, see "Configuring an AT0 Trunk" in the Unified Gateway U1900 Product Documentatin.

Prerequisites

l You have connected AT0 trunk lines to the carrier side and obtained the number allocated to each line. Each FXO port on the local OSU board must be connected to an AT0 dedicated line on the carrier side, and uses the number allocated to the dedicated line.

l Basic configurations have been completed on the local end, including OSU board loading, intra-office user number allocation, and intra-office prefix configuration.

l The office route for routing calls through AT0 trunks and the outgoing prefix have been configured. Outgoing calls made by DID users are routed using this office route.

Procedure

Step 1    Use an administrator account to log in to the web management system of a U1900 series unified gateway.

Step 2    Choose Trunk > Trunk Configuration > AT0.

Step 3    Click the icon for the peer office.

Step 4    Click Create, configure the port numbers and office route for the AT0 trunk, and bind the port numbers with intra-office numbers one by one. The number allocated by the carrier to an AT0 dedicated line become the DID long number of the corresponding short number.

note

For details about the FXO port numbers used by phones, see the cable sequence table for the OSU board in "Reference > Pin Assignments of Subscriber Cables" in the Unified Gateway U1900 Product Documentatin.

note

l When configuring the DID service, you only need to specify dedicated line numbers. You do not need to set Default Called Number.

l An AT0 dedicated line is available only to a specified user. The Line Selection Mode value does not affect calls, and you can use the default value.

Step 5    Click OK.

Step 6    In the upper right corner of the web page, click 101919mcutkxs8mtm0xckn.png to save the configuration.

----End

you have to make good plan and to test the lines carefully apart from the U19 to make sure that the problem if from the U19 or from the analog lines if you face any technical issues
