How BFD can help OLT failover fast?

Hi, what is the differece to configure BFD or without BFD for OLT type B dual homing protection failover? How fast the OLT failover occur if configured BFD or no BFD? please advise, thanks in advance.

Hey!

BFD is used to detect faults that do not cause the port to be down, but service interruption. 

For example, single-fiber faults, upper-layer protocol module faults, interface board forwarding faults and optical transmission equipment faults between NEs. 

After BFD has been configured in the protection group, the fault can be quickly detected and then triggered in the preceding scenarios.

Usage Scenario:
When there are a great number of BFD sessions, you can view BFD session with specified type, name or bound peer address.

Precautions:
No matter whether a static BFD session with automatically negotiated discriminators is the same as a dynamic BFD session or not, both the BFD sessions are displayed as dynamic sessions when a BFD type (static or dynamic) is queried.

it depend of you live network , example:

you have all the protect group configure on the OLT side , and the fiber cut between switch and OLT, it will taking less than 2S to resolve it
